Easton initiated its own Climate Action Plan in 2021, aiming for a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 from 2019 levels, and achieving net zero emissions by 2050. This ambitious plan demonstrates the city’s commitment to a sustainable future.

Federal acts like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and Inflation Reduction Act have allocated $1.8 million to the Lehigh Valley for weatherization projects. This funding has already improved 17 homes in Northampton County, making them more energy-efficient and resilient to adverse weather conditions.
Vice Mayor Ken Brown pointed out that weatherization efforts also create job opportunities for contractors, manufacturers, and small businesses. Implementing these plans will drive necessary changes within the community, fostering both environmental and economic benefits.
Nick Horting from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development noted that $186 million has been designated for state-wide weatherization programs, with an estimated 14,000 homes to benefit.
